History

Haswells began life more than 150 years ago in around 1857 and was then known as Haswell Brothers & Co.

Originally located at Elwy House at 15 King Street, the company later moved to 8 Grosvenor Road until relocating to 51 King Street – each new address remaining within the market town of Wrexham.

In 1992, Haswell Brothers & Co joined the UHY Hacker Young Group and became known as “UHY Hacker Young Wrexham”.

For 25 years, UHY Hacker Young Wrexham continued to service private clients and businesses. During July 2008, the Wrexham office moved its headquarters to its current location at Pembroke House on the Wrexham Technology Park.

Then, in 2017, the Partners decided that changes were required. No longer did they feel they were providing the service they wanted to their core target area of Wrexham. So, the company left the UHY group, and rebranded as Haswells – retaining the name as a nod to its heritage yet with a forward thinking, modern twist. Interestingly, a number of long-standing clients commented that Haswells had, pleasingly, returned to its core values and roots and there was a collective general feeling in the town that Haswells had ‘come home’ to Wrexham.

Haswells today

To this day, it remains of utmost importance to the team at Haswells, that it continues to provide the quality service that the company has become renowned for during its 150 years’ history. Coupled with the fact that it has kept abreast of advancements, Haswells now brings a contemporary methodology to its accounting services.

Tony Thomas FCA, Paul Harris BSc FCA and Rachel Coles ACCA, strive to push Haswells forwards.

Tony joined Haswell Brothers in 1968 as a trainee accountant, becoming a partner on 1 st July 1978. Paul joined the business in 1976 and was promoted to partner in 1988.

“We have both lived through a number of changes – both economically and within Haswells – but one thing we have never lost sight of is the service we provide to our clients,” commented Tony.

Paul added, “New clients can be assured that, here at Haswells, we have their interests at heart and our highly trained and efficient team will always be on hand to alleviate any queries or concerns. From providing everyday accounting services to more unusual client requirements, we pride ourselves on going above and beyond the norm.”

Rachel Coles ACCA joined the firm on 15 October 2005. Rachel commented, “Our clients have, and always will be, our priority. Whether they are an individual private client, or a multinational corporate group, each is treated with the utmost respect and with the personal touch – and advised according to their individual needs.”
